An apple crumble, without the apple and crumble : on food

mix 030I was close to broke and feeling low when I bought “Cake Days” (a beautiful book filled with great recipes for all kinds of beautiful cakes). I was stoked when I first bought it. Studied it on the train ride home and ignored the nudge in my heart questioning my sanity “Will you actually make these cupcakes, tarts and cheesecakes. Have you lost it? Cakes over bills???” I ignored it, because I loved looking at the pictures and imagining what the cakes would taste like.

They ended up tasting better than I imagined. After all these years my search for the perfect cupcake recipe’s had come to an end!! I was ready to start a cupcake revolution (forgetting that, ahem, the author of the books is the owner of the Humming bird bakery) and take over the world… (Sigh)

I still do not know what happened afterwards. I just kind of forgot about the book. Forgot that I had it and forgot that it existed, until yesterday… I was lying in bed watching a ‘Master chef Australia’ re-run, when it popped into my brain!

I was a bit scared to try baking a cake at first. Mainly, because I did not have the right size or amount of eggs for anything, anything except the apple crumble cake. Only I had no apples (of course). I had already been to the grocery store to buy baking powder and did not want to go back as I was also making a stew (beef/chickpeas/tomato & marsala very yummy.) I decided to try to bake the cake without the apple or crumbles. And added almond essence, butter cream and some crushed peanuts on top. It ended up tasting great and looking quite pretty (if I may say so myself :D).

Love.

p.s. I'll try to post the recipe soon!

Betty : a song

A few weeks ago I bought a ticket to see Miss Brooke Fraser in concert. I, at first, had wanted to wait, because I figured that there would be lots of tickets left on the day of the concert – I thought ‘no one’ knew her music (silly me) – and figured I’d be able to get them for very little money. Today, however, I found out the concert is sold out! And I’m really happy that I bought the ticket. And I could not go without sharing my happiness and her music. So here’s to September 30th when I will see her performing life! (and ofcourse to all the Betty’s out there – new - welcome to the club ;D - and old

Love & Blessings.

You are not alone : a contemplation

Sometimes I struggle to stay true to myself. Struggle to let my dreams be my own - instead of my mother, father or sister's. I try hard to view this life we lead through my own eyes. Try to base my opinions, hopes and dreams on what life has taught and shown me. I suppose we all reach, hope and dream of something. Albeit love or a brand new bike. We dream, struggle, achieve and sometimes fail. When overcome with fear we sometimes even refrain from trying.

TWLOHA (an org. dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide) has started a campaign called: Fears vs Dreams. They've teamed up with photographer Jeremy Cowart and travel the US (and internet) in search of folks that dare to share dear biggest dream and greatest fear with the rest of the world.

I guess I wanted to share this video, because it touches, encourages and inspires me. The measure of a man is not skin deep, but lays in the possibilities knitted into our very souls. We owe it not only to ourselves, but also to others to love ourselves. And love ourselves enough to give ourselves - if you can still follow me - a chance in life. Fears vs Dreams encourages people to share, to be open and honest and let's people know that they are not alone. Our dreams and fears are shared by many, and we are not to face them alone. So visit fearsvsdreams.com and join in on the fun!

My own biggest dream? That we all shall live in the simple Truth of Love. My greatest fear? Sleepwalking through life... (a.k.a. never really living at all).

Love.

Culture: a contemplation

This is supposed to be a culture blog, but - as you might have noticed - I have been posting nothing more than songs. I have to be honest with you lazyness has played its part. Reality keeps demanding my attention and keeps me from digging into culture... Actually see
king things that like a light bulb are revealing, disciplining, confronting and are devoted to truth.
I suppose it would be cool to actually share those things with you. I thought. But as you can see I haven't done that yet (:D) But I did want to let you know that I was aware of this situation and that it's being dealt with.

Love.
